About Motorola

Motorola was founded in 1928 and over 80 years it has transformed into a global telecoms company, creating highly-desirable smartphones. The company was divided into two public companies in 2009, one of which was Motorola Mobility.

Motorola Mobility was first purchased by search engine giant Google before later being purchase by Lenovo, who finalised its purchase of Motorola Mobility, from Google, in 2014.

Motorola has invented most of the technologies that made mobile communications possible and has many world firsts. These include creating the first mobile phone in 1983, the first mobile network base station and the first GPRS (internet connected) mobile phone in 2000.

Motorola’s smart phones run on the Android operating system and most recently the company has promoted its pure Android approach. The pure Android experience ensures that Motorola doesn’t add bloatware to devices and they will only pre-install Motorola apps when there isn’t an equivalent feature supplied by the Android OS.

Motorola creates a wide range of smartphones from budget handsets, like the Motorola Moto E, through to high-end devices. Motorola has also worked in collaboration with Google to create the Google Nexus 6.
