High performance in a compact shell

So, if you want the ultimate premium experience in a compact shell, then the Sony Xperia XZ1 review, is the one that you need to read.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact has a compact design that incorporates a 4.6” HD display. This is one of the smallest around, making it a truly pocket friendly smartphone.
Keep up to Date
Fill in the form and be the first to know when the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is released.
This Sony phone is very light at 143g but it is not particularly slim at 9.3mm thick. This is simply due to the fact that the same premium hardware is inside, leaving consumers choosing between tall and thin or short and fat.
The compact design is offered in four colour choices, which are all inspired by nature. The colours are Horizon Blue, Silver, Black and Twilight Pink.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is IP65 / IP68 certified, meaning that the phone can quite happily resist the rain and an occasional splash. The front glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is extremely tough.
The remaining phone body has a metallic texture and a joint structure that resists bends and twists.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB RAM inside. This processor is up to 20% faster than those before and it also is more energy efficient.
Images and videos, that have been saved on the internal memory, open three times faster. This means that consumers can finally say goodbye to annoying lag issues.

Security and transferring content
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact has a fingerprint sensor built into the power key. This means that waking the phone and unlocking it, happens in one action.
Transferring content over from an old smartphone or Apple iPhone is easy. Sony has provided a 32GB memory and a microSD card slot, supporting up to 256GB cards.
Sounding just as good as its larger cousin, the Xperia XZ1 Compact has Hi-Res Audio and DSEE HX software. This lifts all music tracks back to almost their original studio quality.
Music is projected over stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround. These speakers create 50% more sound pressure and can be fine tuned with Clear Audio+, an equaliser and Clear Bass.
Sony’s new 3D Creator app is pre-loaded and can be used to capture 3D renditions of people or objects. Using the built in camera, the capturing process takes between 15-60 seconds.
Once captured, 3D images can be used as a wallpaper or 3D printed. There is a morph tool, AR-Object feature and AR-Avatar feature, that puts your face on other bodies.
With 3D Creator, you could be one of the first people to have a 3D avatar on social media and you can rotate around these saved images. 3D images can be shared quickly at up to 150Mbps.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact will be one of the first smartphones released with the Google Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. This OS comes with the Google Assistant, a faster boot up speed, autofill log ins and Picture-in-Picture multitasking.
Notification Dots appear on app icons and these allow you to quickly see what’s new and dismiss the notifications by swiping them away. Android Instant Apps are also supported and these work in the browser, so you do not need to downloaded apps before starting to use them.
Sony is one of the best for adding its own unique and useful apps. On the Xperia XZ1 Compact, these include PS4 Remote Play, Movie Creator, Smart Cleaner, Spotify, What’s New, AR Effect and the Xperia Lounge.
Innovative AI apps include Xperia Actions, which learn your usage patterns and makes setting suggestions in order to optimise the battery and performance. Xperia Tips also help out by, for example, reminding you to call back a missed call.
Camera & Video
The 19MP Motion Eye camera is one of the most advanced that you will find in any smartphone. The camera can capture Super Slow Motion footage at 960 frames per second. This is four times more frames per second than any other smartphone camera.

The camera on the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact has a 8x digital zoom, Quick Launch and Capture in 0.6 seconds, Autofocus Burst and 4K video recording with SteadyShot. Creative control is given through shutter speed controls and manual focus.
To ensure you never miss the action, Predictive Capture buffers images prior to you pressing the shutter button. This allows you to rewind time and save the action that happened before you pressed the shutter key.
The 8MP selfie camera can take standard selfies with a 80o field of view. It is also possible to take a Super-wide Selfie with a 120o field of view.
All day battery
The 2,700mAh battery doesn’t have the largest capacity that we have seen, but in the case of the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, this is of little concern. The all day battery ensures that you never run out of power, through its Smart Stamina 3.0 software.
Smart Stamina 3.0 learns how you use the phone in a typical day. If it detects that you are using the phone more than usual, then it prompts you to enter STAMINA mode.
Qnovo Adaptive Charging and Battery Care manage charging cycles to ensure that the battery has twice the usual lifespan. One way in which this is done, is by only charging the last 10% of the battery, just before you wake.
A fully charged battery is under stress, so only having a full charge at the last minute prevents a loss in performance over time. The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is also Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 ready. You simply need a Quick Charger in order to take advantage of this.
